RuPay card seems to be a game changer in the
oligopolistic international payment system where there are players like VISA,
MasterCard, Diners and American Express. RuPay card seem to be have given
a bolster through the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) in which’s an aim
for financial inclusion scheme launched by Hon Prime Minister Shri
Narendra Modi. Let’s first understand that what this card and the gateway is
and try to integrate.
RuPay card is a portmanteau word for Rupee
and Payment. It’s the Indian version of a debit or credit card just like
its International cousins VISA or master. The card should be issued by
major public sector banks. So in order for it to be accepted, there would
be the creation at Point of presence and ensure that the usage happens
will be a herculean task but there is what the opportunities lies for
marketers to market it, through PMJDY the reach and hopefully we also have
a gateway as big as the colonial cousins and according to the statistics
by RBI (source in business-line) , there are around 1.9 crores credit
cards in India and 40 crore debit cards, so imagine the data that will get
churned out when there are 11 crores accounts and the RuPay gateway. Hope
